Clinical Track Assistant, Associate or Professor in Veterinary Anesthesiology
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine &
Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a clinical track faculty
position in veterinary anesthesiology. An applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent
veterinary degree and must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary
Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and
Analgesia (ECVAA), or must have completed an ACVAA or ECVAA approved residency
and have met the requirements to take the corresponding board exam. Applicants must
hold or be able to obtain a regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in
Texas.
The successful candidate will devote approximately 75% of his or her time to clinical
instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Small
and large animal clinical duties will be shared with other veterinary anesthesiologists.
Clinical responsibilities will include anesthesia support for the small and large animal
hospitals and the Diagnostic Imaging and Cancer Treatment Center. The remaining time
will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of a creative
research program, and academic service. Numerous opportunities for collaborative
research exist throughout the College and University. The successful candidate will have
the opportunity to interact with more than 45 small animal faculty members, 30 large animal
faculty, and 35 interns and residents in the VMTH.The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a spacious facility with sophisticated
diagnostic and patient care equipment, including but not limited to color-flow Doppler
ultrasonography, 4D transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, digital
fluoroscopy, scintigraphy, 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, video endoscopy, nuclear imaging, acidbase/
blood-gas analyzers, oxygen and inhalant gas analyzers, standard coagulation as
well asTEG and PFA analyzers, intraoperative cell salvage machine, phacoemulsification
system, pediatric and adult patient ventilators, one-lung ventilation devices, high-flow
oxygen therapy and peripheral nerve stimulators. Radiation capabilities include
TomoTherapy and iridium implant brachytherapy. Surgical suites and instrumentation allow
for complex orthopedic, neurologic, cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal procedures such as
stereotactic brain biopsies, cardiac occlusive device implantation, and subcutaneous
ureteral bypass device placement. Research equipment available includes lithium and
thermodilution cardiac output monitoring, thermal threshold testing, and mechanical
threshold testing.
