VetAgro Sup, (University of Lyon, France) is offering a three year residency position in
Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to
receive a high quality training and gain expertise and skills to prepare for the Board qualifying
examinations of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).
Required education and credentials:
The candidate must have a veterinary degree and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine
and surgery in Europe. The candidate must have followed a pre-residency program that
consists of at least 1 year rotating internship or an equivalent of at least two years of private
practice experience, approved by the Credentials and Education committee.
The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills with a good team
approach, must speak English or/and French.
Residency training program:
This standard residency training program runs over three years, from 2017 to 2020.
The contract will be renewed each year based on evaluation of the previous year.
The program is expected to start the 01st of December 2017.
The residency program is guided by 2 ECVAA diplomates. In a few words, it consists of:
75% of time (38 weeks per annum) for each of the 3 years will be spent in the clinics, helping
to provide the clinical anaesthesia service, and helping to instruct veterinary students in the
theory and practice of anaesthesia. This time is split between the large and small animal
hospitals, in order to satisfy the examination requirements to have a working knowledge of
anaesthesia in a wide number of species.
25% of time (14 weeks per annum) will be allocated for private study, work on research
projects, CPD (continuing professional development), attending conferences or going to other
relevant institutions, and holidays. The resident will have to write up at least two case reports
and to complete at least two clinically based research projects and to have the papers
submitted in a peer-reviewed journal before completion of the residency.
