Intern in Veterinary Anaesthesia Analgesia
Dick White Referrals, UK
Dick White Referrals is looking for three Veterinary surgeons interested in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia to join its team as anaesthesia intern. Dick White Referrals can offer you the ideal environment to refine your skills and acquire new ones, under the supervision of four ECVAA Diplomates and three anaesthesia residents.
The ideal candidate is a veterinary surgeon with a strong interest in anaesthesia, who would like to eventually enroll in a residency program. An attractive benefit package is offered.
Dick White Referrals is a large, still rapidly expanding, small animal referral clinic, with state of the art facilities, including modern anaesthesia workstations with comprehensive haemodynamic and ventilatory monitoring, a dedicated ultrasound machine to perform peripheral nerve blocks, non-invasive cardiac output monitoring and a intensive care unit. We are conveniently located between Newmarket, the home of horse racing, and Cambridge, with its world-renowned university, with direct access to London and Stansted Airport. The strategic location will satisfy people loving countryside/small villages and large towns/cities.
Caseload includes soft tissue surgery, minimally invasive and interventional procedures, orthopaedicsurgery, neurosurgery (spine and brain surgery), ophthalmic surgery and anaesthesia for advanced diagnostic procedures (MRI and CT, both on site). We also provide in hours anaesthesia service to Newmarket Equine Hospital, one of the largest Equine Referrals in Europe, a partnership that allows us to run a standard residency program, although interns will not rotate to the Equine Hospital.
The current anaesthesia team consists of 7 senior anaesthetists (six of which are Dipl.ECVAA or ACVAA), three residents, three interns and four anaesthesia technicians/nurses. The successful candidate will join a team of 30 specialists in various disciplines, working together to offer the best possible quality of care to small animals. The anaesthesia team holds weekly journal clubs, and case discussion/book reading. The suitable candidate will be involved only with small animals anaesthesia, and spend two thirds of his/her time providing anaesthesia for imaging procedures, where knowledge will be consolidated, and the remnant third of the time in theatre, where new skills will be acquired under the close supervision of a senior resident or a Diplomate. Interns are encouraged to undertake a research project, under the guidance of a senior clinician. Anaesthesia interns participate in a 1:4 out of hours on call rota, always directly supervised by a senior member of the team.
Candidates must be MRCVS, or eligible to register with the RCVS, and have the right to work in UK (UK or EU citizenship, or with valid UK working VISA for the duration of the internship). If not of English mother language, candidates must have good knowledge of spoken and written English, preferably certified by examination.
