Clinical Assistant, Associate or Full Professor - Clinical Educator

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time clinical (term) track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Education housed within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Appointment rank will be determined by the qualifications, documented experience, and interests of the selected candidate.
This position will be instrumental in teaching professional veterinary students anesthesia and surgical training. Responsibilities include working with an accomplished team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care specialists, and educational assessment faculty, to teach students, using ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy procedures on shelter animals, as well as utilizing training models and specimens. Specific duties include developing and delivering didactic lectures, laboratory instruction, assessment of students, and supporting a range of clinical education courses. This position also includes involvement in intern training and can be modified to allow the successful applicant to pursue areas of personal interest.
Approximately 70-80% of duties will include providing classroom and laboratory instruction in the professional veterinary student curriculum. The remainder of duties will be split between research, outreach activities, hospital service, and institutional/committee work. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate in clinical research with others in the department, college, or elsewhere. Candidates with interest in veterinary medical education or development of novel ways to instruct veterinary students would integrate well with our research group, although candidates with other established clinical and research interests are encouraged to apply.
The College of Veterinary Medicine has dynamic faculty representing disciplines of medicine, surgery, emergency/critical care, pathology, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and public health. Modern laboratory space and animal facilities are available in the college. The clinical skills laboratory and surgical training facilities are state of the art. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in other colleges and a number of interdepartmental programs/centers, as well as, at the USDA/ARS National Animal Disease Center and the USDA/APHIS National Veterinary Service Laboratories.
Required Education and Experience:
- DVM or equivalent degree
- Minimum of three years of experience in a high quality general or specialty practice or completion of an approved residency program
- State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment
Preferred Education and Experience:
A demonstrated commitment to veterinary clinical instruction and education
- Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues successfully in a team
- Demonstrated ability to instruct or mentor veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and clinicians
- Board certification in a related clinical field (e.g. American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia, American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, or American Board of Veterinary Practitioners)
CLINICAL ASSOCIATE OR CLINICAL PROFESSOR: Candidates must meet the requirements commensurate for each rank at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.
