NAVAS (North American Veterinary Anesthesia Society, www.mynavas.org) will host its first annual symposium on Friday March 5 – Sunday March 7, 2021.  On Friday, March 5th, NAVAS and the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists (AVA, www.ava.eu.com) will co-host scientific abstract presentations.  On Saturday March 6th and Sunday March 7th, NAVAS will provide CE at the advanced and practitioner/technician level on in partnership with the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia and Analgesia (AVTAA).

 

The tentative 2021 NAVAS CE program detailed below will be presented in a virtual format. Further details will be forthcoming this fall, including details on registration and CE credit (RACE approval).

 

Friday March 5th  – Abstract Session with the AVA

Pre-recorded abstracts of 12 min with 3 min for questions. Topics range from basic science to clinical studies in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia.

Morning abstracts – 9 am – 12 pm EST

1 hour break

Afternoon abstracts – 1 pm – 5 pm EST

 

Saturday March 6th  – Anesthesia Refresher and Evolution

3 hours – Dr. Bill Muir – Cardiovascular Refresher

1.5 hours – Dr. Duncan Lascelles – Anti-NGF Strategies: A new era in pain management

1.5 hours – Heidi Reuss-Lamky, AVTAA – Fear free presentation

 

Sunday March 7th – Anesthesia and Analgesia for the General Practitioner and Technician

Morning

1 hour – Monitoring – approach to the healthy patient – Jennifer Sager, VTS Anesthesia

1 hour – Monitoring – approach to monitoring the compromised patient – Heidi Shafford, DVM, PhD, DACVAA

1 hour – Roundtable discussion on the future of monitoring and monitoring guidelines – Heidi Shafford, Jennifer Sager, Andrew Schultz

 

Afternoon

50 minutes – Open your eyes: Advances in local and regional anesthesia for ocular procedures – Yael Shilo-Benjamini, DVM, DACVAA

50 minutes – Practical loco-regional anesthesia – Molly Allen, DVM, DACVAA

50 minutes – Pain management in the perioperative period – Katie Bennett, DVM, DACVAA

1 hour – Roundtable discussion on options for optimizing comfort in small animal patients and overcoming implementation challenges in your practice – Yael Shilo-Benjamini, Molly Allen, Katie Bennet
