Your role and responsibilities
Dick White Referrals (DWR) is pleased to invite applications for a resident position in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Dick White Referrals is a small animal referral centre, with a busy and challenging case-load and state-of-the-art facilities (including 5 theatres, 4 dog wards, dedicated cat ward, MRI, CT, digital radiography, ultrasound, on site, laboratory with clinical pathology and histology, intensive care, water treadmill and physiotherapy unit), offering secondary and tertiary referral service for small animals in soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, internal medicine, emergency medicine and critical care, cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, dermatology and physiotherapy. The centre is currently undergoing expansion, with expected completion date in early 2023.
DWR is an ECVAA (European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia) training centre, offering a standard training programme supervised by 7 ECVAA diploma holders, based at DWR and at Newmarket Equine Hospital (NEH), where the anaesthesia team of DWR provides an in-hour anaesthesia service. Externships will be organised to gain experience in farm animals and exotic/wild animal anaesthesia. The suitable candidate will join a team of 7 ECVAA Diploma holders, one anaesthesia clinician, two Post Residency Clinical Fellows, two residents, one anaesthesia intern and five anaesthesia nurses. You must be enthusiastic, interested and with some experience in anaesthesia, analgesia and intensive care, keen to work as part of a team. As part of ECVAA pre-residency requirements, you must have done at least a one-year rotating internship (or have at least two years’ experience in general practice), with an anaesthesia internship being desirable, but not essential. Candidates must be UK resident or entitled to reside in UK under UK immigration law, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons by the time of the starting date of the position and hold a driving licence valid in UK. If not of English mother language, candidates must have good knowledge of spoken and written English, preferably certified by examination.
The successful candidate is expected to spend approximately 75% of the time in clinic (DWR and NEH, clinical externships), will have in total approximately 15 weeks per year off clinic (including 7 weeks of annual leave), allocated to study, external rotations, work on research projects, CPD. The on call out-of-hours rota for DWR is approximately 1:6. A CPD allowance is available on top of the salary. An attractive benefit package is also provided.
