Objective

Essential Functions
Enhance the knowledge, growth and overall development of the veterinary students through contribution to courses administered by the Department through the delivery of assigned lectures, running small groups, reviewing and contributing to course material, developing and reviewing exam questions. Contribution to research is also required.
Responsibilities
Instructional Activities
- Deliver selected lectures in Anesthesiology in the graduate programs and clinical participation of the Small Animal Clinic activities
- Provide technical skills development for pre-Clinical Veterinary Medical students by actively participating of the assigned Anesthesia related labs.
- Actively participate of the Small Animal Clinic Anesthesiology rotations in term 6.
- Provide clinical (anesthesia) service in the Small Animal Clinic (SAC), including emergency services.
- Contribute to other SAC activities (i.e. M&M rounds, case presentations).
- Assist in conducting and grading of examinations in compliance with the SVM Examination Policy.
- Participate of the syllabus outline by providing objectives and also examination questions for each assigned lecture.
Research and Scholarly Activities
- Active engagement in a research program in the area of expertise which will also provide for student research opportunities.
- Develop and contribute to extension and continuing education programs, in collaboration with other SVM departments and/or other schools.
Service
- Participate in the following University activities:
- Departmental Meetings (when required)
- Departmental Faculty evaluations (when required)
- SVM Faculty Meetings (when required)
- Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)
- Outreach efforts in the local community (i.e. One Health One Medicine program)
- Faculty Senate
General
- Take responsibility as an advisor of assigned students.
- Establish appropriate opportunities for interaction with students in addition to scheduled lectures. (Ten hours per week of faculty-student interaction are required of faculty not teaching in a laboratory and six office hours for those who have laboratory assignments)
Qualifications
- DVM or equivalent degree, MS or PhD, Board Certification or board-eligibility based on successful completion of a Residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia (ACVAA) or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia (ECVAA).
- Other recognized Board certifications in Anesthesiology and experienced in a clinical teaching facility will be considered.
- Preference will be given to candidates with Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia (ACVAA) or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia (ECVAA) and those experienced in a clinical teaching facility.
