Clinical or Tenure track Assistant Professor in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia

Full-time, 100% (12-month basis)

REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must have a degree or equivalent and have achieved board-eligibility or board certification in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced degree(s), track record in scholarship, and prior research training.

SALARY: Commensurate with applicant’s experience and qualifications.

DUTIES: The University of Illinois is developing a high-quality integrated anesthesia and pain management service working collaboratively to achieve tripartite excellence in service, teaching, and research. The current anesthesia and pain management program at the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is a highly productive and dynamic group who have achieved excellence in comparative research, resident instruction, and the practice of cutting-edge medicine for companion, production, and zoological species.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical service in veterinary anesthesia and pain management, contribute to clinical instruction of residents, interns, and veterinary and graduate students, and communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and referring veterinarians. Teaching responsibilities will also include didactic, small group and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will continue to help develop the anesthesia and pain management program at the University of Illinois. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in relevant research projects. Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities to collaborate within the College of Veterinary Medicine, and with the new engineering based college of medicine, as well as with investigators in other units at the University of Illinois and externally. Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate’s appointment title.

The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a full service facility with newly remodeled surgical suites and anesthesia induction area.  Equipment to perform ultrasound dilution cardiac output measurement, a portable ultrasound machine for local anesthetic techniques, and the most current patient monitors and anesthetic equipment are available.
