The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track, or tenure-track faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. The successful applicant will join a dynamic anesthesia service comprised of four Anesthesia faculty (three ACVAA board certified), three anesthesia residents, eight anesthesia technicians (four VTS certified in anesthesia), and one veterinary assistant.
The anesthesia service provides anesthetic care for patients in the small animal and large animal hospitals. The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is a modern facility equipped with all the resources and expertise (18 specialty services) needed to provide first class patient care, clinical research, and teaching. The VMC has a comprehensive ICU with VECCS Level 2 Certification and four faculty members who are board certified in Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care; a minimally invasive procedures unit and faculty members with expertise in endoscopy, laparoscopy, and stenting; a state-of-the-art physical therapy facility including hyperbaric oxygen therapy; and onsite stem cell development. Clinical services are supported by excellent clinical pathology and diagnostic pathology departments. A full-time Veterinary Social Work program offers counseling services for clients, faculty, staff, and students. Other support services include behavior and nutrition.

Requirements for the applicant include a DVM or equivalent degree, completion of a formal residency in veterinary anesthesiology, and board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. Responsibilities of the faculty include clinical service; clinical and didactic teaching of anesthesia and analgesia to professional students, interns and residents; development of a basic science or clinical research program; and participation in continuing education at the local and national level.
