The Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania is seeking applications for an Assistant, Associate or full Professor of Anesthesia in the Clinician Educator standing faculty track. This track is intended for full-time faculty whose responsibilities include clinical activities, scholarship, and teaching. All appointments of Clinician-Educators are full-time untenured appointments to the Standing Faculty.
The successful candidate will be responsible for didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students, participation in patient care, supervision of residents and continuing education for veterinarians and related stakeholders.
Responsibilities within the hospital typically include elective and emergency daytime practice, teaching rounds, and back up coverage of residents, interns, and anesthesia nurses for emergency after-hours duty. Clinician Educators will have 30-40% protected scholarship time and fifty to sixty percent (50-60%) of the allocated position’s time will be devoted to clinical service in the Anesthesia service. The remaining portion dedicated to scholarly activity, dependent and independent collaborations, translational research, clinical trials, and administrative, classroom and laboratory teaching, and school responsibilities.
The major responsibilities of the Clinician Educator (CE) track are clinical duties, conducting or collaborating on clinical/translational research, scholarly activity, and teaching. Although a CE may at times be a PI, the CE’s research primarily extends existing observations or generates new observations through collaborations.
As a citizen of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, the successful candidate is expected to participate in some administrative or committee work as well as serve as a resource to programs such as Development, Communications, Customer Service and Community Outreach in promoting the capabilities and accomplishments of Penn Vet. The successful candidate should demonstrate a collaborative style that fosters and supports teamwork and innovation.
The Anesthesia program at Penn is a service consisting of five Board Certified Anesthesiologists (4 ACVAA and 1 ECVAA) and five anesthesia residents. The technical staff includes fifteen full-time anesthesia technicians of which four are anesthesia certified.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold DVM, or equivalent degree and be a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.
Applicants should have evidence of excellent teaching and an outstanding record of research, as well as evidence of the ability to obtain independent or collaborative extramural funding. He or she will have a track record of scholarly excellence, a robust research portfolio, and a demonstrable peer-reviewed publication record. Evidence of leadership skills in mentoring professionals at all career stages is desired for senior ranks.
