The Department of Comparative, Diagnostic, and Population Medicine at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, has an opening for two clinical track positions in Anesthesiology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Overall expectations within the anesthesiology service are to make significant contributions to and enhance the quality of the college programs in teaching and the hospital operation and to advance anesthesia research in the department. The main clinical responsibility of this position is provision of anesthesia for large, small, and exotic animal patients of the University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals. This includes pre-operative assessment and management, intra-operative management, and post-operative care.  It also includes shared after-hours duty with other tenure and clinical-track anesthesia faculty members. The successful candidates are expected to support primary care veterinarians through care of their patients, consultation, and communications. Major teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction of professional veterinary students and training of anesthesia residents.

The successful candidates are also expected to initiate and participate in collaborative research efforts in keeping with the candidate’s training, knowledge, experience, and interest, as well as the Department’s long-range plans. Opportunities exist for participation in graduate program training and collaborations with established research programs within and outside of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Small Animal and Large Animal Hospitals at the University of Florida are well-equipped, practice progressive medicine, and are uniquely situated in close proximity to the UF Health Shands Hospitals and research centers, thereby fostering inter-disciplinary collaborations. Additional expected service activities for this position include committee participation within the Department, College and University, local, state, national, and international professional organizations, and editorial service for scientific and trade journals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications for this position is a DVM or equivalent degree from an approved institution and completion of residency training from an ACVAA approved anesthesia program at the time of employment. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with faculty, technicians, students, staff, referring veterinarians, and clients is essential.
