Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Tenure-track or Clinical-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesiology.  The successful candidate will join two other ACVAA certified faculty members, a resident, and eight dedicated technicians in the anesthesia section. Site construction has begun for a new Veterinary Teaching Hospital that will have 11 state of the art ORs, ICU, intermediate care and general wards, dedicated treatment areas and a full range of diagnostic imaging facilities.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the PVM and the VCS department. Learning: Participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM and veterinary nursing curricula, clinical teaching in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), and participation in training house officers. Faculty also participate in university-wide graduate programs (MS and PhD). Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the VTH (typical time commitment:  30 -50% Tenure Track and 60-70% Clinical Track); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Back up emergency call is shared with other anesthesia faculty. Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects.  Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program. Research that complements the interests and strengths of current faculty interests is ideal but can also be tailored to the candidate’s specific background and interests. The PVM is situated on the Purdue campus, allowing for a wide array of both clinical and basic research opportunities within and outside of the veterinary college, such as retrospective and prospective studies in both small and large animal anesthesia and pain management. Service and Engagement: participation in committee work, professional organizations and community service, delivery of continuing education programs; and other appropriate activities are encouraged.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and completion of an anesthesia residency program approved by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA), or board certified by the ACVAA or the ECVAA.  Candidates must demonstrate a sincere interest in providing outstanding clinical service in both small and large animal anesthesia and be able to effectively engage students in clinical activities. Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.  The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of collegiality and cultural diversity in the College. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  A background check will be required for employment in this position.
