The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified candidates for a clinician teacher position in anesthesiology and pain management. The FMV is located in the Education District of Saint-Hyacinthe. The chosen person will join a team of 2 professors, 3 clinicians teachers, 6 technicians and up to 3 residents This selected person will work within the Centre hospitalier universitaire vétérinaire (CHUV) in collaboration with several specialists – anesthesiology, cardiology, surgery, dentistry, dermatology, medical imaging, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, theriogenology, zoological medicine, as well as emergency and critical care – who are all committed to providing the highest standard of veterinary care. The candidate will also serve as an educational resource for future veterinarians at the Faculty.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic university hospital environment, with exposure to a wide variety of cases involving companion animals, equines, farm animals, exotic pets, and zoological species, by collaborations with the local zoo (Granby) and the Aquarium of Québec. The position involves the management of numerous complex and stimulating anesthesia cases.
As a clinician teacher, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine :
Through your teaching (for a maximum of 90% of the appointment), you will also ensure the visibility of your discipline and your research activities in addition to actively participate in the operation of a renowned institution (for a minimum of 10% of the appointment). As such, you will:
- Participate in clinical teaching through provision of care and services meeting the different needs of the anesthesiology service clientele (small animals, exotic, equine and bovine patients) including the duty schedule with the other team members;
- Participate in clinical teaching of interns and residents in anesthesiology;
- Supervise veterinary students and rotating interns and residents;
- Evaluate student learning;
- Provide educational advice and assistance to students.
The cases encountered in the anesthesia department are diverse and come from companion animal hospitals, equine and farm animal facilities, as well as the zoological medicine service.
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- Hold a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
- Hold a diploma from the ACVAA or form the ECVAA;
- Hold or obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Quebec (Canada) issued by the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec;
- An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy.
