Assistant, Associate, or full Professor of anesthesiology (clinical track or tenure track position available)

CLINICAL TRACK:  The Department of Veterinary Clinical Science at Louisiana State University invites applicants for an open faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. This is a nontenured-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate or professor. Rank and salary are commensurate with the individuals experience and qualifications.

Job Duties:   

70% – Anesthesia support for the small, large and zoo-exotic animal services within the teaching hospital, and participation in after-hours emergency service. Clinical responsibilities will be shared with other members of the anesthesia service (total of 4 anesthesiologists, 7 technicians, and 1 to 2 residents)

20% – Contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology and teaching of clinical veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to veterinary students, & cooperate with other faculty members in training interns/residents

10% – Independent and collaborative research endeavors

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent degree; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program.

Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and 5 years of related research / teaching / clinical experience; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia andAnalgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program. Diplomate status from the ACVAA / ECVAA.

Full Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and 8 years of related research / teaching / clinical experience; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program. Diplomate status from the ACVAA / ECVAA.

Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: Diplomate status from the ACVAA / ECVAA.

All Ranks: Strong teaching abilities, advanced degrees and/or experience in team research.

TENURE TRACK:

Special or Physical Qualifications:

  • Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and “on-call”/relief shifts.
  • Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel – these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
  • Required to be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach and/or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
  • *Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
