The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, invites applications for an assistant professor position in Anesthesiology in the Health Programs Appointment System (HP). Health Program appointments are unique to Michigan State University’s Colleges of Human, Osteopathic, Veterinary Medicine, and Nursing and were created to enhance programs in clinical education, patient care services, and clinical research. Responsibilities will include classroom and laboratory instruction, research and scholarship and clinical practice and instruction. Applicants should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with other clinicians and staff. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include service to the large and small animal hospital and teaching anesthesiology to professional students, residents, graduate students and interns. Participation in providing back-up to the emergency anesthesia service coverage will be required. All faculty members are expected to be involved in research and scholarship, professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development

The candidate will join a distinguished veterinary anesthesiology program with 3 board certified anesthesiologists, house officers, and a large group of supporting anesthesia nurses.  The Veterinary Medical Center is a state of the art facility with a large and varied caseload. The Veterinary Hospital has a caseload of around 30,000 patients per year and provides superb facilities including 15 Small animal and 4 Large animal operating rooms, a minor procedures area, a wound treatment area, a dentistry suite, a recently remodeled intensive care unit and in-house MRI, CT and interventional fluoroscopy suites. House officer rounds, morbidity and mortality rounds, weekly journal clubs, case presentations and seminars enhance the intellectual environment. MSU has two other medical schools on campus that provide ample opportunity for collaborative research. Research infrastructure is directly supported by the college-level pre-awards office that assists faculty in preparing grants, and a Research and Teaching Technical Support group that provides a ready source of research technicians, and assists with general research needs. Opportunities for collaboration in research abound.

Required Degree- Doctorate -Veterinary Medicine

Minimum Requirements-     Applicants must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree and be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan (full or clinical academic license accepted). American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) specialty board certification or eligibility/candidate status is required.
