The Melbourne Veterinary School at the University of Melbourne (Australia) is seeking a full-time locum anaesthetist for the period of 1 July to 30 September 2024.  Shorter engagements may be considered.

 

The role centres around teaching and supervising final year veterinary students in workplace-integrated anaesthesia clinical rotations in the small animal hospital.  The role will also involve provision of service clinical work in small animal anaesthesia in the Greencross Veterinary Hospital located at the University’s Werribee campus.  The hospital has state-of-the-art anaesthetic and monitoring equipment situated in modern surgical, medical and diagnostic imaging areas.  The hospital is staffed by experienced specialists, clinicians and nurses who constantly strive to provide the best clinical care possible including a 24/7 emergency and critical care department. In addition to clinical teaching and service, there may be opportunities for the role to engage in teaching activities in other areas of the school including clinical skills, animal handling and communications should the appointee be interested.

 

While there are equine facilities on site, the locum position will not include any equine anaesthesia duties.  It is important to note that this locum position does not require any on-call duties or service during weekends or public holidays.

 

The appointee for this role must be eligible for general registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of Victoria, Australia https://www.vetboard.vic.gov.au/VPRBV/VPRBV/Vets/Registration.aspx. Board certification (or eligibility) is preferred however experienced candidates with formal training or significant work experience in veterinary anaesthesia will be considered.

 

The Werribee campus is located about 25 km from the central part of Melbourne and is accessible by car, train, and bus with ample free parking onsite.  There are numerous longer stay accommodation options nearby as well as busy shopping centres and markets.  Melbourne is a lively city with infinite options for dining and entertainment and is close enough to both mountains and beaches for day trips.
