DESCRIPTION:
This residency is a 3-year (36 months), full time, post-graduate program of 108 credits obtained mostly from clinical training. A specialized study diploma (D.E.S.) is awarded upon completion of the program. Clinical training is provided in the field of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia. Additional training is provided in other selected specialties to meet the requirements of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA). The resident will participate in the clinical care of patients presented to the veterinary teaching hospital. The resident is required to complete a research project and participate in the daily supervision of undergraduate students and interns rotating through the anesthesia service and on-call services. The successful candidate will participate in selected teaching activities for undergraduate students. Residents are eligible for 3 weeks holiday per year, the timing of which will be determined following discussion with the program director to ensure the needs of the service and hospital are met. Additionally, if the resident is not on-call, he/she is eligible for statutory holidays. Any veterinary medical activities performed outside the residency program must be informed to the program director and to the Associate Dean for clinical training and continuing education. The programme is supported by one ACVAA and one ECVAA Diplomate, and one residency-trained full-time clinician. A third professor should join the program in the next months. A master’s program may be offered following discussion with the program director. REQUIREMENTS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
Have recently completed an internship or have equivalent experience
License from the Ordre des Médecins Vétérinaires du Québec before starting the program
Working knowledge of French
TUITION FEES (Amounts shown are in Canadian currency):
Landed immigrants and Canadian citizens living in Quebec, French citizens, Francophone Belgian citizens : +/- $5,000 / year
Landed immigrants and Canadian citizens not living in Quebec : +/- $12,000 / year

REMUNERATION:
$27,000 /1st year
$29,000 /2nd year*
$31,000 /3rd year*
To these amounts are added 3.6 % for benefits and 3 % for the payment of public holidays.
* Continuation of a second and third year depends on the mutual satisfaction of the resident and the anesthesia section.
The resident is allotted a total amount of $3,000 to attend two conferences in his specialty during his/her program. (maximum amount per activity: $2,000)

The email addresses of three references will be needed during the application process; the references will have to fill out a form sent to them directly by the Université de Montréal and need to return the completed form by following the instructions. No other forms or reference letters will be needed;
Students having done a traineeship at the University Hospital must provide their traineeship assessment with their application.
International students must also provide:
a copy of the passport and
transcript for each year of veterinary degree specifying GPA and class rank

Candidate selection
The selected candidate will be contacted on April 24th, 2020 by phone and email. Each candidate will have 24 hours to accept or decline the position. If a candidate withdraws, the next candidate on the rank list will be contacted until all positions are filled. The rank list will not be disclosed. This process can take several days. Candidates on the waiting list will be notified by email and a written letter. Candidates not selected will be notified in writing.
